Combat-heavy racer from developer Supersonic, played from a top-down perspective. Mashed features four players racing at one time either in teams of two or every man for himself. The 13 different race environments are spread over various terrain including ice, sand and highways.

An assortment of weapons are used to batter opponents into submission and gain rank in the race. However, once another car is blasted off road the player will still be able to target the race leader with air missile strikes.

Ambitious PC games rarely come without a host of problems. Boiling Point, a fusion of first-person shooter and role-playing game, is no exception to that rule, shipping with so many issues that it's unplayable out of the box. The Deep Shadows-developed game is crazy buggy, with frequent crashes, routine corruption of save files, vanishing non-player characters that makes it impossible to complete quests, and lots of other extreme weirdness, including the ability to destroy a police station with a single crossbow bolt. A recent patch eliminates the save bug and most of the quest and graphical oddities, but at present this game remains proudly unrefined.

ShellShock 2 is a violent, first-person, single player survival horror game set against the backdrop of the Vietnam War. Its primary game-play centres on the use of psychological horror and fear, relying on the power of suggestion, mood, tension and foreshadowing - implying the notion of danger, potential danger, imminent danger, and horrifying acts that have (or are implied to have) occurred or will come to pass.

The primary driver should be the players fear, with the payoff being the revelation of scenes of absolute horror. Fear is maintained through an increasing sense of dread, the player pursued by a seemingly invincible enemy, while unpredictable plot reversals constantly wrong-foot. Uncertainty becomes the build-up, and the horror, through sickening revelations and gruesome tableau - is the pay-off. Violence is also used in this form of horror; it is swift, unexpected and bloody.
