Looks like after the Windows SP 2 beta had been made public lot of people are still confused on how to download it. The problem is since its a beta release the update is not pretty much straight forward. I have started downloading it and here are the steps you can follow :

Check for any available Updates in your computer :

First run windows update from control panel and find if there is anything you have missed before downloading. SP2 needs SP 1 to be available. If you have already running windows update regularly you should already have it.

Update vista registry to accept SP2 update :

Next You need to update registry so the winows update will set your computer for getting the Vista sp2 beta. For doing this download the

  1.  SP2CPPRK.cmd.remove from this link
  2. After the download rename the file from SP2CPPRK.cmd.remove to SP2CPPRK.cmd
  3. Right click and run as administrator.
  4. After you run check if you see the below message in your command prompt.

Check for new update:

Now again go and check for new update in windows update center. You will find a small update which will download the Vista SP2 Servicing stack update build. You might have to restart after this.

Once restarted your machine check for the udpate again and It will list the vista SP2 package of 297.5 MB in total. Depending on your connection it will download, for me it took like 30 to 45 minutes to complete.

Install it and enjoy the update ;)
